The second annual Eden Vintage Film Series comes to Eden Gardens State Park in October! Films will be shown at Eden Gardens on the lawn under the live oaks along the shores of Tucker Bayou. The event is free with park admission. Bring your chairs, blankets, and loved ones and enjoy the movies under the stars. As always, costumes are encouraged for each film
Last year's film series was awesome in the park so wear your costumes, join friends and neighbors, and come out for more great fun. Arrive early to grab your seat and get your snacks.
Eden Vintage Film Series kicks off October 1st with Jaws 2 (Filmed in Destin), starting at 6:30pm!
Eden Vintage Film Series | film rolls at 6:30pm
Oct 1 Jaws 2
Oct 15 Beetlejuice
Oct 29 Frogs
Friends of Eden decided to make the film series a park tradition and we're so glad they did. The film series started in 2014 thanks to local Friends of Eden Gardens State Park including Edward Jack, Rachel Nussbaum, and Bailey Miller. The first vintage film series included Frogs (of course), Cocoon, and The Creature of the Black Lagoon - all filmed either nearby or somewhere in Florida.
This year's films also have some local connection except Beetlejuice which somehow fits just fine. Jaws 2 was filmed in Destin, Okaloosa Island and Navarre Beach (among other coastal locations in the US). And Frogs, of course, was filmed at Eden Gardens State Park in Point Washington at the exact spot we'll be sitting and watching the film. Frogs will remain part of the film series as a Halloween tradition for SoWal each and every year.
Friends of Eden remind us to bring bug spray (and a cooler if you wish). Grayon Beer company will have some local brews on tap. And concessions will be available for donations. Thanks to Friends of Eden Gardens State Park for bringing this film series to South Walton!
Frogs is a 1972 horror film starring Sam Elliott, Ray Milland and Joan Van Ark. The film falls into the "eco-horror" category since it tells the story of an upper-class U.S. Southern family who are victimized by several different animal species, including snakes, birds, and lizards, as well as the occasional butterfly. Nature, the movie suggests, may be justified in exacting revenge on this family because of its patriarch's abuse of the local ecology.
The film was shot in Walton County, Florida, on the Emerald Coast in and around the Wesley House, an old southern mansion located in Eden Gardens State Park in the town of Point Washington, situated on Tucker Bayou off Choctawhatchee Bay.
Eden Gardens State Park
Our favorite SoWal State Park for taking a break from the beach is the spectacular Eden Gardens State Park on Tucker Bayou in Point Washington. Drive straight up Scenic Hwy 395 from Seagrove Beach, across Hwy 98 and you'll see the entrance up on the left.
The focal point of the park is the Wesley house, a beautifully renovated, two-story house with elegant white columns and wraparound porch complete with rocking chairs. Surrounded by moss-draped live oaks and ornamental gardens, the Wesley house inspires visions of hoop skirts and landed gentry. It's a favorite place for weddings and other events, and includes a covered stage for performances, a large screened pavilion, and bricked areas under the oaks for giant event tents.
