FAMED FAMILY OF ARTISTS RETURN TO 30-A EASTER WEEKEND TO ENGAGE AND EDUCATE STUDENTS AND ART LOVERS
Bill Dunlap, Linda Burgess and Maggie Dunlap to Speak at Ogden Museum of Southern Art @ WaterColor, Seaside School and WaterColor Inn & Resort
Acclaimed artists Bill Dunlap, Linda Burgess and their daughter Maggie Dunlap will return to the 30-A community for entertaining lectures, receptions and activities Easter weekend, April 7-11, in a series of events organized by the Cultural Arts Association of Walton County and the Ogden Museum of Southern Art @ WaterColor.
Following the highly anticipated opening of their new exhibit at the Ogden in March, the entire family is coming back to meet with the community again for a series of enriching lectures about their work. The events kick off April 7 with a special treat for the students of the Seaside School, who will enjoy a private tour of the Ogden Museum to view the celebrated work of Bill, Linda and Maggie. The family will return to the school on April 10 at 8:30am to talk about their lives and artwork with the students.
On April 10, from 1pm ? 3pm, 13-year-old Maggie and her parents will host a book reading and drawing activity for children enrolled at Camp WaterColor. Then, at 4:00pm at the WaterColor Inn (Meeting Room II), the community is invited to attend a candid and interactive free lecture by Bill Dunlap, where he will share highlights and slides from his distinguished career. A wine and cheese reception will follow at the Ogden from 5:30pm ? 7:30pm.
The final event, a free breakfast reception with coffee and pastries at the Ogden, will take place Saturday, April 11, from 10am ? 12 pm. The entire family will be on hand to discuss their body of work.
Their exhibit, ?Dunlap, Burgess, Dunlap: Two Generations of Southern Artists? will be on display at Ogden @ WaterColor through June 14, 2009. Museum hours in the spring are 11am ? 5pm (closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays) and six days a week (closed Wednesdays) from 11am ? 7pm during the summer.
William Dunlap has distinguished himself as an artist, arts advocate, writer and educator during a career that has spanned more than three decades. His paintings, sculptures and constructions are in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Corcoran Gallery of Art and the Ogden Museum of Southern Art; and he has had a number of solo exhibitions. One of his most recent works, ?First Among Equals for the 44th Time,? is a portrait of President Barack Obama. Dunlap lives with his family in McLean, Virginia, and has studios in Coral Gables, Florida and his boyhood home of Mathiston, Mississippi. He was also the subject of the book Dunlap published by University Press of Mississippi.
Linda Burgess, a native of Coral Gables, Florida, is a noted artist, curator, arts educator and journalist. Her paintings and photographs have been exhibited throughout Asia, Europe and the United States, and are in a number of public and private collections.
Maggie Dunlap, the 13-year-old daughter of William Dunlap and Linda Burgess, started her artistic career at a young age. Her work is whimsical, yet demonstrates her natural artistic talent. Maggie recently illustrated The Four Dogs Blues Band, published by the Mississippi Museum of Art.

The Ogden Museum of Southern Art/University of New Orleans opened the satellite location at the WaterColor Inn & Resort to serve Northwest Florida audiences and reach a new range of cultural tourists who come to what is known as ?Florida?s Design Coast? along Route 30-A. WaterColor and the St. Joe Company are collaborating with the museum to draw attention to the region?s Southern art and cultural heritage.The museum features changing exhibitions during the year as well as special programs related to them. It is also home to an annex of the Center for Southern Craft and Design, based at the Ogden in New Orleans. The Center showcases and sells the work of a wide range of prominent Southern craftsmen including Terry Guess, Mignon Faget, Mark Derby, Mitchell Gaudet, Marc Maiorana, George Peterson, Dona Dalton and Gogo Borgerding.
