Any suggestions on who to take classes from? My dog is a black lab, potty trained ... but he needs to listen better.
My daughter needs to be involved (she is 7).:dunno:

try calling Nikki at Pet Butler. I don't have her number handy but I know she does an obedience class and I've heard she's very good. 1-800-petbutler??? Petbutler.com??
Maybe:dunno:

The lady we used is no longer in the area, to the best of my knowledge. But,
I would call some of our of local veterinarians to get recommendations. We use Barry Veterinary, 837-7170.

Good luck with your black Lab! Our Daisy is also a black lab and is incredibly smart, but also has an incredible case of selective hearing. She is now 4, and while still spirited, has gotten much better with age.

Remember - a tired Lab is a good Lab.

Great advice. I will have to run with him when I am not pregnant. He would love that.
I wondered if Noche was getting jealous of Brown Dog because his Daddy takes Brown everywhere (they had two dog fights this weekend that really got everyone debating the solution/problem). He must be coming of age... realizing he can be alpha, as he is much bigger.
This morning, my daughter and I decided that Noche will come to drop her off at school every day. That way he has his special car ride too.
He has already shown me that he is thankful several times today. I contacted Niki and look forward to hearing back from her. Thanks!

If you don't find someone specific, Pet Smart in Destin offers classes. Also you can do alot yourself with some good books. There are many lab specifics books written on training labs.

And Yes they needs lots of excercise and mental stimulation. The ride will be good for him.

Of course your dog is male, so not sure how much you can improve the 'listening' gene. :rotfl:

TEE HEE! That was good. No kidding! I certainly will go look for a lab book. Not only will it be good for Noche, but my daughter loves to read. This will be a great family endeavor, certainly worthy! Thanks!

My favorite is Labs for Dummies. It really has some good training advice. I also like Family Dog by Richard Wolters and The Everything Lab book by Kim Thornton.

Also Labs really like to have a job. Mine helps with laundry by picking up socks and bringing them to the laundry room.

Depending on what you are training the dog to do, my family has had good luck w/ using an electronic training collar - it has a remote and you push a button to make a beep noise or zap them. That's more for hunting/field training though.

Just be consistent when training them - one family dog only "came" when you added the "now" because of overuse/lack of emphasis!
