The 2012 Tasting of Champions: Wine Walkabout and Tasting is Jan. 27, 5:30- 8:30 p.m. at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort’s Magnolia Ballroom, in the Baytowne Conference Center. This Destin Charity Wine Auction Foundation annual event will feature medal winners in 67 categories of wine, culled from more than 600 wine entries for the 2012 Sandestin Wine Festival.
Prior to the event, a panel of regional wine experts will score the 600 wines entered into the private wine judging competition. The judges will select a gold, silver and bronze medal winner in each category.
The Tasting of Champions event invites the public to taste all wines entered in the judging, including best in show red and best in show white. The 67 winners, or “Champions,” will be paired with gourmet food stations featuring Cabot Creamery Cooperative cheeses, smoked salmon & cucumber with dill crème fraiche, assorted sushi, baked brie with fresh fruit and crackers, BBQ pork dumplings with teriyaki glaze and chocolate passion fruit truffles.
Tickets are $50 per person and may be purchased at DCWAF.org, or at the door. Tickets include both wine and food stations. All proceeds from this event benefit local children’s charities.
