Maya Blume-Cantrell of Maya Earth Ceramics in Franklin, TN

A native of the Gulf Coast of Alabama, Maya has always drawn her aquatic inspiration from the gulf and bay waters that surround her as a child. Maya will be demostrating her art form of creating clay vessles during the day from 10am-1pm and artist reception in the evening to meet the artist. Maya's vessels will be exhibited in Curate, a collaboration with Justin Gaffrey, located at 72 Main St. in Rosemary Beach, just across the way from the award-winning Pearl Hotel.

Maya Blume-Cantrell is a ceramics artist and has been raised on the waters of the Gulf Coast of Alabama in Orange Beach. Maya has always drawn her aquatic inspiration from the gulf and bay waters that surrounded her as a child. In addition to the water and its abundant life forms, plant life and its unique anatomy has provided much of the basis for her work.

“The flowers, seeds and figures that exist in such a variety of forms and shapes, provide infinite possibilities and combinations for vessels I create,” says Maya. “And with these life forms in mind, both marine and terrestrial, the pieces become vessels of unique and infinite possibilities of combination in which they can form.”

From a young age, Maya was always encouraged to express her creativity and expand her horizons. After beginning a study of architecture, Maya discovered her affinity for form and shape. Realizing she had found the sculptural aspects most intriguing, she transferred to a full time art student. Once her hands found the clay, she knew she had found her medium. Since graduation from Auburn University with a BFA, she has continued to explore the endless possibilities of clay, and has been a contributor to many art collectives, galleries, workshops, and charities.

Curate will be hosting artist receptions on a regular basis at the new gallery. Come out and meet the artist!
