The City of Fort Walton Beach Heritage Park & Cultural Center will host a free public speaker series in honor of the upcoming 150th anniversary of the American Civil War. The Civil War was the deadliest conflict the United States has ever waged in terms of American lives lost. It remains one of the most important historical events in the history of the United States and changed the country forever.
The next upcoming lecture will feature Dr. Derek Zumbro on February 16th, 2011 at 1:00 PM. Dr. Zumbro?s talk is titled ?Civil War Battlefield Photography? and will be held inside the Indian Temple Mound Museum.
Dr. Derek Zumbro received his Ph.D. in History from Louisiana State University. His specialties include Europe since 1500, Modern Germany, and Military History. Currently, Dr. Zumbro holds the position of Military History Coordinator at the University of West Florida and teaches a series of courses on military history. As a former Navy SEAL, Dr. Zumbro brings a unique perspective to military history.
