Watching Centurylink operate I'm pretty amazed that phones and internet work as well as they do. Seems like a handful of techs constantly playing musical chairs to keep it all going.
Just happened to be walking down my road yesterday and noticed a couple of things - no telling how long it's been like this. Might explain why my interent is inconsistent ... I see this kind of stuff all over South Walton ... one of the phone wires actually had a tag with address and phone number on it.
