This weekend kicks off the international art-for-peace project, coordinated by The Seaside Institute and the 30A Creative Alliance, and hosted by several communities and businesses along Scenic Highway 30A called the Art Miles Mural Project.

On Sunday afternoon from noon to 3:00 p.m., following the Seaside Half-Marathon & 5K Run, WaterColor has an event open to the public where anyone can stop by and help paint a mural that will have a 'celebrate our Sea Turtles' theme. Local artist Sally Pallowski will sketch the turtles for the mural, Nonie?s Ark will be there from 12:30 to 1:30 with several live turtles for folks to ?meet?, a representative from the Flashlight Cover organization will be on hand to pass out flashlight covers to use on the beach at night and educate people on the importance of this practice to the sea turtles that nest along our beaches and local favorite, Reed Waddle, will play live from 12 pm to 3 pm. All of this will take place in and around WaterColor's Town Center and Cerulean Park.

Other amazing events are planned over the next ten days in conjunction with the Art Miles Mural Project so be sure to check out the posters/schedules that are up and around town, as well as an earlier thread here on sowal.

Thanks to Monark Events for planning the details of Sunday afternoon and John R and his team for installing our 20 murals!

Will someone be keeping the paint warm today? Brrrr The wind may provide some interesting graphics. Great idea. Will be interesting to see and hear the stories on how this goes. Good luck. There may be a few hot chocolate spills and stains as participants paint the mural today. Winds blowing about 30 mph.

WaterColor could "celebrate the sea turtle" by not putting out their chairs and umbrellas at 5:30 in the morning, before the turtle watch volunteers have had a chance to check the beach for new nests. :bang:
