SandestinVoters and the Walton County Taxpayers Association, both nonprofit and nonpartisan organizations, will be hosting Candidate Forums throughout the months of July and August. SandestinVoters was founded in 2009 to inform and educate voters about the election process in Walton County and the candidates running for office. The Walton County Taxpayers Association was formed in 1982 and has been a strong voice for taxpayers by focusing on limiting the role of government and monitoring the funds necessary to provide basic public services to the citizens of Walton County.

Schedule for Candidate Forums
When:
Thursday, July 15, 2010 ? School Board candidates, Districts 2, 3, and 5 (summary here)
Thursday, July 22, 2010 ? District 4 Commissioner candidates
Thursday, July 29, 2010 ? Circuit Judge candidates
Thursday, August 5, 2010 ? District 2, U.S. Congressional candidates
All forums will be from 6:30pm until 8:30 pm
Where: The Walton County Coastal Branch Library (on U.S. 331 south of the Bay)
Admission Price: FREE
Format: All candidates will have 3 minutes to introduce themselves to the audience. After introductions, written questions will be submitted from the floor and the candidates will answer these questions, along with questions submitted online prior to the event.

Questions for the candidates may be submitted here. All questions and a video of the event will be posted on the SandestinVoters web site after each event.

Why should you attend these forums?

With the oil spill and the lagging economy, Walton County Government is facing difficult budget choices. It is critical that candidates are elected who can best meet these challenges and provide vital services to our community with less money. Three of the five School Board seats are being filled this election year, giving Walton County voters a rare opportunity to have a strong influence on the direction of the School Board at a time when it is most needed. The Republican candidate for the District 4 Commissioner will be decided in this primary election. Candidates for the District 2 congressional race (a seat currently held by Democrat Allen Boyd) will also be chosen during this primary and will face off in the general election in November.?

?By attending these forums, you can gain valuable knowledge to help you select the best candidates. Voting is your best way to influence how your tax dollars are spent. Visit www.sandestinvoters.org for more information. YOUR VOTE COUNTS!
