Find out why ice cubes are not just for cocktails in this fun and exciting all-day workshop!
"Ice Dyeing" with Gabriele next Friday, December 5 at CAA's Bayou Arts Center. Call 850-622-5970 to sign up today through this Friday. Reservations must be made by this Friday at 4pm to secure your spot!
Fiber Reactive Dyes do wonders for white plant-based fabrics: The dye them wash fast at room temperature. Adding ice cubes to your prepared fabric/garment before adding the dye will result in very pretty crystalline patterns. I have seen many hydrangeas, roses, irises, donkeys … the limit is you phantasy!
We will be working with Fiber Reactive Dyes, and they may splash onto your clothing. Thus, WEAR OLD CLOTHES.
You will need to bring at least one bucket and several Gallon Size Zip Loc bags (one for each piece of fabric/scarf/whatever you choose to dye).
IF you have GALLON SIZE flower pots (the kind you get when you buy a big plant for your garden in a pot ), bring as many as you can. Make sure you have rinsed them clear from any soil residue that may have remained in them. If you have any FIVE GALLON pots, bring those, too!
The basic Kit cost is $ 8.--, covering the dyes and the ice as well as gloves for everyone.
Here are the different scarves/garments you can order for your class:
Rayon Scarf made from 100 % Bamboo (11”x60”) $ 5.—
Rayon Scarf with fringe (13.75”x60”) $ 7.—
Rayon Sarong (44”x72”) $ 18.—
Light Rayon Endless Loop Scarf (21.5”x77”) $ 6.—
Light Rayon Beach Cover-Up One Size fits Most $ 13.—
Silk Satin Scarf (14”x72”) $ 11.—
NOTE: Silk is a protein fiber and will NOT result in brilliant colors. The silk will still be dyed wash fast, but the overall result will be pastel. Keep that in mind when you are planning your project.
Since I need to order these materials beforehand, I need to have your material order no later than November 24. They take at least one week to get to me… And then I have to prepare them for dyeing…

Gabriele was born in Berlin, Germany, and trying to emulate “water” has been a lifelong quest. While living in Frankfurt, Germany, she spent years painting on silk and making dried flower arrangements.
Moving to the Panhandle of Florida 8 years ago gave her the space to branch out into other ways of turning white fabric colorful, from marbling to rusting fabric to finally working with dyes for cottons, rayons and wool.
She is selling hand dyed fabrics to artists at quilt shows all over the Eastern United States, and her hand dyed garments and sheet sets are available at a local store, Retail Therapy in Santa Rosa Beach, FL.
