First post and I hope this is not too many questions. Booked Watercolor home late September --- to make affordable, still good ocean temps, but a little later than Hurricane statistical peaks. But, I'm starting to worry things will be dead. Bringing 3 grandkids...2,4, and 12. Can anyone tell me what the rental occupancy rates were in Sep 2008? Will there be any "30a" activities for kids? Do some restaurants close for season by then? Thanks so much!

Go to Seasidefl.com for events calender down there. I think there are still things going on for a wile. There is always the beach, Fire it up, Bears on the Beach and things like that. Slow times are great on 30A you have space to walk and it's peaceful.

Not to worry, my grandson loves it at Thanksgiving, sometimes water is a little cool but he always loves it. Beach changes with different kinds of marine life. Have been there for the past 3 Thanksgivings, no problem with restaurants, less crowded. He always wants to know if we are coming back. We find rates start to decline in Sept, as grandparents we have to look at that, we do like the make affordable. The way I see it, anytime at the beach is a good time.

You can have all kinds of fun. Consider renting or buying the classic B movie "Frogs" filmed at Eden State Gardens with the lovely historic Wesley House Mansion. Then, you can go to the park the next day, have a picnic, tour the mansion, let the kids run around the beautiful grounds and explore some of the trails. You won't see any of the scary frogs from the film (the were brought in just for the film), but you will see other beautiful and natural wildlife. There are a number of state parks in South Walton. Check out a few of the coastal dune lakes from the bilke path, the older grandchild can ride their own bike and you can check into the dual rider options for the younger ones. If you need to take in a traditional movie, the Pier Park facility in Panama City Beach is only about a 20 minute drive from WaterColor and South Walton. The kids will be in school here, but many will be hitting the pool and beach after school to surf, yolo board, skim board, etc. You may just want to spend a large part of every day watching them practice their beach skills. There are a number of day trips or extended excursion opportunities that you can take in Walton County. Go up to the Walton County Heritage Museum in DeFuniak Springs which is open Wednesday - Saturday 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.. Then, Britton Hill at Lakewood Park near Paxton is the highest point in Florida and the lowest high in the United States of America. The South Walton Coastal Branch Library has a great children's section. A number of restaurants and shops along 30A and South Walton, from Miramar Beach to Inlet Beach (about 26 miles) will be open to welcome you and your extended family. Have fun and welcome.
