Join Marie's Bistro and friends for a music event on Wednesday, June 8 at 7pm. The community is coming together to assist the Nasri family with medical expenses from Mrs. Marie's recent fall. Blues at Blue Mountain Beach will feature Jeff Carlisi, a founding member of the band .38 Special, and blues music by other local musicians and special guests, including Marie's Bistro friend and neighbor Mike Huckabee.

“We love Hanie and Marie,” said Huckabee. “They are wonderful friends; wonderful, kind, and gracious people. When I heard about the tragedy, I was shocked and couldn’t imagine what those type of bills would do to them financially. So, I saw Jeff Carlisi and said, ‘Let’s do something,’ and he agreed. That is part of the charm of this place. When a neighbor needs help, everyone chips in.”

Huckabee will play during the event, and he invites anyone else who plays an instrument to come and join him.

Attendees are requested to come prepared to make a contribution to the fund set up to help with Marie’s medical and rehab expenses.

Marie had a terrible fall early morning on May 1 when she fell 12 feet down an elevator shaft which was still under construction. She was staying at her daughter's home in Inlet Beach at the time. Getting up early to get ready for work at the Bistro, she reached for the wrong door. She was rushed to the hospital and has since had several surgeries on both feet and ankles at UAB. She is returning home soon for several months of recovery and rehab.

Marie's husband Hanie has been by her side as well as on the road quite a bit taking care of business at Marie's Bistro in Blue Mountain Beach. Marie's sister, family and friends are also by her side and we hear she's doing well with her usual bright attitude. Though we also know it's very difficult right now.

Marie's Bistro is a real local spot many love to visit with friends and family. It's always a warm place where Hanie and Marie make you feel welcome. The community is coming out in support of the Nasri family during their time of need. Because it's going to be quite a road to recovery. The restaurant remains open for dinner and Sunday brunch but has been closed for lunch lately. Normal hours of operation will return soon as Hanie and crew adjust to the situation. Live music and karaoke continue as well as cocktails, dinner and good food prepared by loyal cooks always in the kitchen working side by side with Marie.

Many thanks to everyone in SoWal and beyond for your support of Hanie, Marie and family. We're grateful to Mike Huckabee and friends for bringing the music to Marie's Bistro on June 8. It's all about community.

UPDATE on Marie by son Paul:

Yesterday 3 June 2016 mother was allowed to be discharged from her 30 + days in hospitals. She will still have to undergo a series of skin grafts and assessments but the majority of the surgeries are over.

Now she is homebound, and in the care of family and friends in Destin, FL. There will be return visits to UAB. For anyone in the gulf coast area, on Wednesday 8 june 2016, 7pm onward, a celebratory fundraising event will take place at her restaurant marie's bistro 30a. It is very difficult for her to move around right now so if you make it, please toast your glass to her and the gift of life!

We want everyone to know that your compassion, care, and concern will be forever cherished. Thank you all for the support in this recovery process. Kind regards Marie and her family.
