I cheated my wife out of the experience of surfing when we were in Costa Rica a few years back and regret it..... I know that our small surf is not ideal, but I would like to buy some type of beginner board that she can play around with.... any suggestions would be appreciated.

I don't know what Hop is doing tonight, but I'll testify that he put my fat butt on one of those wonderful red lifeguard-type surfboards and we had a blast. They're really long and buoyant, so they're easy to ride.

longer boards are fun for down here...most beginner folks don't care about ripping it up...but even if there's just a little wave activity..you can usually get up on a longboard :D

coincidentally i was looking at the 12', 28lb long boards today on 283, just N or 98.... Jeff has a warehouse with a bunch of these YOLO Boards, that you can surf or paddle.... i will likely buy one myself, but need to check on a rack for my truck to carry it first.... his shop is about a 1/2 mile N of 98 on 283, going toward Chat Holly Road..... you will see his board out front....

We are very pleased with our beginner longboard. We picked it up over at Liquid Surf & Sail in Ft Walton Beach. It's a 9' Gordon & Smith soft top with tri-fins. There are other soft top boards on the market, but this one just seemed very well made. Think it was about $600 - $700. The softness is good for beginners --- it's a little more forgiving when you fall. The only downside to it is that its much heavier than a regular board so you need a little more muscle to haul it around with you. However, on the flip side, when you catch a wave -- it's like riding on your own little island.
