Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is kicking off this year’s fight with a “Battle of the Bra’s”. A bra decorating contest will be the highlight of the 2012 Kick- off event, scheduled for August 30th beginning at 6:30pm at the Grand Theatre in Pier Park. All pre-registered teams are expected to participate in the creative contest to support the fight against breast cancer by creating a bra that best represents their team and submitting it to the ACS office by August 23rd, located at 4001 W. 23rd St. Panama City. Survivors of the disease will be the judges to decide which teams created the best looking bras.
Since Making Strides Against Breast Cancer's Top Team Reception, the organization has rallied several dozen teams that are actively raising money. The funds raised go towards breast cancer research, education, advocacy, and local services and programs. One of the programs we offer is Look Good…Feel Better where licensed volunteer cosmetologists teach cancer patients techniques to help restore their appearance and self-image during chemotherapy and radiation treatments. In addition to that program, our 2nd most requested service, Road to Recovery, where cancer patients are driven to and from their doctor appointments and treatments is also funded and utilized right here in Bay County.
Several local businesses are supporting the cause too! They are our corporate sponsors and the Making Strides team is pleased to announce the Women’s Imaging Center as the Pink Premier sponsor again for 2012. Making Strides volunteers expect to reach a goal of raising at least $150,000 by the end of October 2012."
More information about the October 27th Making Strides Against Breast Cancer non-competitive 5K Walk will be provided at the August 30th Kick- off event. To attend the kick-off event, please RSVP. The bra battle will begin immediately after the kickoff presentation.
