Any comments about the movie "Baader-Meinhof Complex" shown at the Seaside Rep theatre last night (Nov. 14)? A line I remember went something like this, "When one person commits a murder it is a crime. When 100 people commit a murder it is a war and OK." The film was very well done but the content terrifying. I would say more because it was intensely thought-provoking. But every thought seems incomplete. The film engages deep issues in our society.

very compelling movie. reminded us of all the turmoil going on around us during the late 60's and early 70's and that it wasn't just in the u.s. so many questions from that movie. we feel fortunate to have been able to see it, and we're looking forward to the FSU series continuing to bring brain challenging movies to this area. heck, we couldn't even get "Milk" to play here!!!

The Baader Meinhof Complex

I thought the film was amazing... very informative and educational. It's incredibe to see what extremes people will go to when they are passionate about something. The RAF's values & what they were fighting for, I believe, were right on the money. That being said, I can't help but hope (perhaps naively) that all types of political, sociological, or religious differences can be resolved peacefully.

There were lots of great quotes throughout the movie, but without a pen & paper at the ready, I've forgotten them. I loved the one about how all Germans and Americans do is "eat, eat, and shop" so they don't have to reflect or take action about anything. Obviously, that's a very rough paraphrase.

What does "Complex" in the title mean?

Someone asked me what the "complex" means in the title. I did a little internet surfing and couldn't find any talk about it. My take is that it is either or both about the gang and the psychological mindset that allows an educated person from a prosperous background to try to change the system with personal violence. A gang of people is complex. Also a complex is often a sickness.
