SOUTH WALTON IS BEING TOUCHED BY ANGELS
South Walton will soon be touched by more "angels" through Good News United Methodist Church in Santa Rosa Beach as Angel Food Ministries begins in October. Good News is a host site for Angel Food Ministries, a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing grocery relief and financial support to communities throughout the United States. The program began by serving 34 families in Monroe, Georgia (between Atlanta and Athens) in 1994, and has grown to serve tens of thousands of families every month in nearly 30 states.
Angel Food's groceries are sold in a quantity that can fit into a medium sized box at $25.00 per unit. Each month's menu is different than the previous month and consists of both fresh and frozen items with an average retail value of approximately $75.
Food orders and distribution is being handled by Good News as it serves as a "Host Site." Orders and payments will be collected at Good News on October 3 from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m., and October 7 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. (Orders will be taken monthly on the first Wednesday between 5:00 - 6:30 p.m., and the first Sunday from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.) Food Distribution Day will normally fall on the last Saturday of the month, and orders for the next month may be placed beginning at that time. The current menu is available in English or en Espanol at the Angel Food Ministries website, www.angelfoodministries.com
Alice Pence, who oversees Angel Food Ministries at Good News believes that offering quality food at significant discounts on a regular basis is a real and practical way to say clearly that the people of Good News care about their community. Mrs Pence says, "This is one of the ways that our church can reach out in the name of love and friendship to help others in our community by providing groceries at approximately half the cost of grocery stores for those who want to participate."
