Food driveSouth Walton High School Interact Club and Walton County Coastal Branch Library Friends invite citizens and businesses to participate in the Caring and Sharing holiday food drive to help support those in the community of South Walton County.
Non-perishable food items can be donated to the Coastal Branch Library throughout the holiday season. Two front windows in the library have been decorated by High School Students Interact Club with fall season designs encouraging participates to choose your favorite window decoration by placing your canned goods or other non-perishable items below the window of your choice.

Canned food drive
In an effort to give back to those who are facing tough times this holiday season, Seaside and the Seaside Associated Stores will hold a canned food drive to benefit Caring & Sharing of Walton County from Nov. 23-Dec. 18. For every donation of five or more canned food items, the Seaside Associated Stores (Pizitz Home & Cottage, Perspicasity, Seaside Classic, Seaside Beach and Seaside Kids) will extend a coupon for 20 percent off all regular priced merchandise.
Operation Christmas Child
A project of international Christian relief and Samaritan’s Purse, Operation Christmas Child is the world’s largest Christmas project of its kind.
Fill shoeboxes with school supplies, toys, necessity items and a letter of encouragement. Step-by-step shoebox packing instructions are available at www.samaritanspurse.org/occ. To register shoebox gifts and find out the destination country, use the Follow Your Box donation form found there.

Charity Gift Wrap Sinfonia Gulf Coast volunteers will wrap presents for donations during The Silver Sands’ Annual Charity Gift Wrap from noon-6 p.m. Dec. 3-16, and noon-9 p.m. Dec. 17-23 (noon-6 p.m. on Sunday) and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Christmas Eve. They will be located between DKNY and Juicy Couture.
Angel Tree at Silver Sands
Help a child have a brighter day by visiting the “Families First Angel Tree” Dec. 3-14 at Charity Gift Wrap, between DKNY and Juicy Couture, at Silver Sands Factory Stores. A description of each child and gift suggestions will be available. Wrapped gifts must be returned to Charity Gift Wrap no later than Wednesday, Dec.14. Angel Tree at South Walton Fire
The South Walton Fire District is sponsoring the Caring and Sharing Angel Tree. This year’s tree will have more than 300 names of area children in need.
Angels will be available for selection beginning Friday, Nov. 18, at SWFD Station 3, on CR 393N. Selections can be made Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. All gifts must be returned to the firehouse before Thursday, Dec. 15. They can be wrapped or unwrapped but gift bagged is preferred.

Santa Patrol
The Walton County Sheriff’s Office 2011 Santa Patrol fundraiser and donation gift drive to support underprivileged children is now under way. New toy donations will be accepted through Dec. 9 at the WCSO headquarters, 752 Triple G Road in DeFuniak Springs and at the Santa Rosa Beach substation, 133 Sheriff Drive.
Businesses and individuals who make monetary donations are encouraged to address checks to Walmart/Walton County Sheriff’s Office, and mail to the attention of Lt. Eddie Farris of the WCSO’s Citizens Services Division, 752 Triple G Road, DeFuniak Springs, FL 32435.
Coats for Kids at Christmas
United Way of Okaloosa-Walton Counties, in partnership with A & A Transfer & Storage, Bangkok Cleaners and French Laundry are planning the annual coat drive, Coats for Kids at Christmas, to help children in need in Okaloosa and Walton Counties.
To participate, drop off a new or almost new coat through Dec. 2 at the following locations:
Bank of America, BankTrust, BB&T, BBVA Compass Bank, Beach Community Bank, Boeing Company, CCB Community Bank, Coastal Bank and Trust, Covenant Hospice, Eglin Chapel, Eglin Federal Credit Union, First City Bank, Gold’s Gym-Destin, Horizons, Northwest Florida State College, Okaloosa School District Office, Premier Community Bank, Publix, Fort Walton Beach, Publix, Crestview, Publix, Destin, Publix, Grand Boulevard, Publix, South Walton, Regions Bank, Trustmark Bank, Twin Cities Hospital, Vision Bank and YMCA.
Volunteers will pick and deliver coats to Bangkok and French Laundry for cleaning. Participating United Way Agencies will distribute the coats to any child at no cost to the family. Call (850) 243-0315.
