4th Annual Celebration

This year over 1 Billion People in 192 countries will participate in various events all over the world to celebrate Earth Day. How and where will you join in and make a difference? Emerald Coast residents’ here’s your chance and Topsail Hill Preserve State Park is the place.

The Department of Environmental Protection’s Topsail Hill Preserve State Park, the University of Florida IFAS Extension, Florida Sea Grant, and Friends of Topsail Hill Preserve State Park invite you to the 4th Annual Walton County Earth Day Festival & 5K Race on April 21, 2012.

Throughout the week leading up to the Earth Day Festival, April 16-20, there will be many activities being offered within and outside of the park for adults, youth and the whole family. Then join us on the 21st for a wonderful day of activities at the Walton County Earth Day Festival which will kick-off with a Beach Clean-Up at 8 A.M, where you can pitch in and help clean up the Gem of the Emerald Coast. The festival starts at 10 A.M., this FREE event will include: children’s activities, educational games, sustainability demos, music, guided hikes, a silent auction, food and fun for all ages. Many agencies, local artists, and area businesses will be on hand to educate and entertain festival-goers.

The 5K Race will start at 4 P.M. and the event will end with a star gazing opportunity led by the Northwest Florida Astronomy Association.

Walton County Earth Week activities begin Monday April 16

Topsail Hill Preserve State Park and UF/IFAS Extension are offering a selection of great activities during the week of April 16-20 to lead up to the Walton County Earth Day Festival & 5K Race. There are many various activities throughout the week so mark your calendars…

Adult Events:
Hikes meet at tram stop #2 in Topsail Hill Preserve S.P. (entrance fee required),
Tour is free but registration is required call 892-8172 (meet at the Coastal Branch Walton County Extension Office)


  • Tuesday 4/17: Coastal Dune Lake Hike (5:30pm-6:30pm)
  • Thursday 4/19: Coastal Dune lake Tour (9:00am-12:00pm) & Beach Ecosystems Hike (5:30pm-6:30pm)

Youth Events: Meet at the club house in Topsail Hill Preserve S.P. (entrance fee required)

  • Monday 4/16: Kids Club, “It’s All About the Sea” (10:00am-11:30am)
  • Wednesday 4/18: Kids Club, “It’s All About the Wind” (10:00am-11:30am)
  • Friday 4/20: Kids Club, “It’s All About the Earth” (10:00am-11:30am)

Movie Showings for the Whole Family, 7:30pm: Monday-Thursday meet at the amphitheatre in Topsail Hill Preserve S.P. (entrance fee required), Friday meet at NWFSC Room 134 (109 Greenway Trail, Santa Rosa Beach)

  • Monday4/16: Turtle: The Incredible Journey
  • Tuesday 4/17: Planet Earth: Freshwater
  • Wednesday 4/18: Planet Earth: Shallow Sea’s
  • Thursday 4/19: Planet Earth: Forests
  • Friday 4/20: Planet Earth: Pole to Pole
