also note the Hands Across the Sand special event at Seaside as well as other community beaches along Hwy 30A, and throughout Florida:

On Saturday, February 13th, Seaside will be one of many locations across the State of Florida hosting "Hands Across The Sand." This movement, founded by Bud & Alley's owner Dave Rauschkolb, is devoted to protecting our coastlines and waterways from the devastating environmental effects of oil exploration and support industries. The event will begin at 12:00PM on the beach in Seaside, where community members will join thousands of Florida citizens to draw metaphorical and physical lines in the sand; human lines in the sand against near shore oil drilling in our waters. For more information, please visit: www.handsacrossthesand.com

For discussion of this event and issues on SoWal.com please go to:

Today is a busy day in Seaside! It all kicks off with the 4th Annual Seaside KIDS Mardi Gras Celebration at 10AM. Join Abrakadoodle to make festive arts and crafts, and have your face painted! The fun happens outside of Seaside KIDS and Amavida until 2PM. Then, at 2PM, step in line with your friends to parade around town to show off your Mardi Gras spirit. The parade will be led by the 2nd Line Band straight out of Louisiana, The Michael Foster Project. Then, stick around to hear The Michael Foster Project perform throughout Seaside until 4PM!

Also, at noon, gather on the beach for an important movement, Hands Across The Sand.

Finally, the Seaside Farmers Market gets going at 9AM in the Amphitheater behind Raw & Juicy. The market will run until 1PM and features fresh, local produce, baked goods, plants, eggs, dairy products and other goodies!

We hope to see you in Seaside!
