I guess I'm out of touch. Is this where we're at now in America and why so many people have landlords or no home at all? "Working people" affordable housing is $200k+ ???

The Bluffs at Juniper

Also getting a favorable BCC decision at the meeting was The Bluffs at Juniper, a request on behalf of Shivers Holdings, L.L.C., to develop 361 single-family homes, 55 townhomes, and infrastructure on 104 acres on the south side of Cat Island Road north of DeFuniak Springs.

The property is in a Residential future land use area and an Urban Residential zoning district.

Introducing the project, Renee Bradley of Walton County Planning and Development Services stated that no deviations and no buy-outs were being proposed for the development.

Speaking on behalf of the applicants, attorney Gary Shipman explained that the access to the property on Cat Island Road would be in the area behind Fannin’s Restaurant on Hwy. 83. “The developer will do significant improvements to Cat Island Road to improve the traffic,” he said, adding that a sidewalk would be constructed along the development property on Cat Island Road that could be used by people walking to the restaurant and to other business property in that vicinity.

Shipman also explained that the homes would be at a price point for working people, from $200,000 to the low $300,000s.

Also speaking for the applicants, certified planner Melissa Ward spoke about a boardwalk that is planned with the project, leading from a cul-de-sac on the southwest side out to Hwy. 83. She noted that there would be a second access from Wesley Road that would be used for emergency access only and would not be used for construction traffic.

Johns expressed appreciation “that someone’s building some affordable housing.”

If people can afford $2,000+/month for shitty apartments why can't they afford a smaller mortgage payment?

Also, down payments aren't required in Walton County. We bought our house using a USDA Rural loan. It required no down payment only closing costs.
