Hello!

Is it possible to swim across Choctawhatchee Bay? I know it is 27 miles across, but wondering if, logistically, it is possible. All the best!

I wouldn't do it without at least a follow boat, but it is technically possible for a marathon swimmer.

Thanks! That's why I ask. I am a marathon swimmer and absolutely would never do a long-distance swim without a pilot. Do you happen to know what the currents are like? Speed, direction, etc. Might be fun to try this summer.

Sorry, that would be good question for someone else. However, I do know it's constantly changing since you have a tide and at least one major river emptying into the bay as well.

Hello,

If someone were thinking about swimming across (lengthwise) the Choctawhatchee bay, who would it be best to contact about currents, wind, flow, etc. in order to plot an appropriate course? Would the endeavor even be possible? Thanks and all the best!

Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance may have some info. Floida Wildlife Commission Officers and bay fishing guides can give you firsthand experience. Maybe swim parallel to the intracoastal channel but might get some wakes.

George Santos, he has swum it many times.
